The Hundred Line: First Playthrough
I genuinely have no idea how I'm going to structure anything related to this game, especially considering how there's a hundred endings and apparently, according to my friend whose obsessed with it right now, time travel shenanigans. The layouts for all of these pages look like ass because I really want to just throw some stuff up really quick so I know what my initial theories are before getting further in.
Obviously this page is going to be spoiler heavy.
Day 0 to Day 9
I feel like this somehow wasn't enough to get a feel for what's going on and, considering it's the same development team as the Dangan Ronpa series, that tracks. Especially with the number of endings, it's going to take quite a while for all of the information to be revealed. I don't have any super complex theories yet, but so far my theories are:
- The invaders are either aliens or government experiments. Or demons, if Darumi is on to anything. Which I kinda doubt, but maybe she's being set up as kind of dumb to throw us off. Who knows.
- The rest of the world has already fallen to the invaders and the Tokyo Residential Complex is the only place left standing. This feels obvious, but technically, we haven't been told what the entire rest of the world is going through. It could be isolated to just Japan.
- The sirens in the TRC were obviously to warn of invaders. The organization fighting them might be associated with the government that controls the TRC.
- Hemoanima is a military experiment being done with the goal of making super soldiers
- Hemoanima may also be the military's answer to some alien technology
- ...or the experiment went wrong and the invaders were the result? I doubt it though, this feels too grounded for what the writers are usually coming up with.
- The thing that is supposed to be humanity's last hope is either a bomb OR it doesn't exist. It is just a pretext for getting the students to fight.
- The organization Sirei is representing, the one that is likely associated with the TRC, knows exactly what the invaders are and what their goals are. This is why they can guarantee that 100 days is enough time.
- ...it is possible that there was no intention to let them go after 100 days, but that would be kind of boring.
I am enjoying the game so far. I really like Takemaru, kind of obsessed with the fact that he specifically told Hiruko to "crack her egg" and come out as a trans man so he can fight her without hittign a woman...ally? I look forward to finding out what mental illness Darumi has. I said that and my friend said "it's all of them". So. We'll see if that's correct. She feels like a character I would have really liked in middle school. Takumi is likable. I dislike Ima, but it's incredibly funny that Takumi wrote him and his sister's behavior off as just a "twin thing".
Day 9 to Day 21
I am less sure of the experimentation thing, but not as a result of new information. This chunk of days didn't give me any information that changes any of my theories. It is incredibly obvious, however, that they are being monitored and that whomever is monitoring them does not want them to learn too much too fast. I hope Hiruko comes back...
I think Eito and Takumi should be gay. I don't have much more to add this time around.
Day 22 to Day 31
Here's my updated list of theories with tweaks to adjust for new information.
- I'm leaning towards the invadors being aliens.
- At least to the knowledge of everybody in the TRC, humanity has been wiped out except for them. I have no reason to assume that this isn't true.
- Hemoanima is innate and has something to do with contact with the invaders. I no longer think hemoanima is the explicit result of medical experiments. There was just already a portion of the population with special blood and experiments surrounding that led to the development of hemoanima. That's what I think.
- With the reveal of the decoy school, I'm certain that there actually is something that exists in Last Defense Academy. It isn't something made up to get them to stick around, since it would be kind of insane to make a second decoy building with worse defenses to distract from a second building that also holds nothing.
- I have no idea what this "last hope for humanity" is, but given the talk of parallel universes and such, I'm assuming it could maybe be something that can turn back time or otherwise alter the timeline. There has been nothing to imply this that I can recall and I don't even necessarily think this is what they're protecting, but it makes at least a little bit of sense with the parallel universe discussions.
- The organization essentially has to be from the TRC, considering humanity beyond the complex doesn't exist.
- The 100 day deadline is because it takes 100 days for the last hope for humanity to activate.
- The apparition Takumi keeps seeing is a person from an alternate reality. They might be a combatant like them from a similar reality. Or they're an invader, but I feel like it must be something more interesting than that, considering this is the same development team that worked on Dangan Ronpa.
- The machines in that room that they couldn't get to work are medical equipment. I was thinking this, then Shouma's dream-memories kind of confirmed this. I think Kamukura hospital isn't really a hospital (at least not a civilian one) and is more akin to a government black site where they conduct human experiments. To explain the nearly identical room layouts in the school and Shouma's dream-memory, I think the school is Kamukura hospital.
- I think the buildings they're exploring are buildings from the TRC. I think the reason they can't get to the TRC is because it was overtaken by the invaders and everybody is underground in bunkers.
- One of Takumi's dreams/memories had him discussing the outside world with Karua and I think she mentioned that people in the outside world live in underground bunkers, so it's possible that the TRC residents aren't technically the last remnants of humanity.
- They're very obviously setting up alternate realities and parallel universes as an aspect of this story. Nozomi is Karua. Like. That's obvious, right? I don't think they're gonna do a fakeout.
- I think, maybe, all of these people were from different dimensions. I think the warp thing at the beginning was some sort of dimensional travel. Maybe.
I think the group of students from the Second To Last Defense Academy know a whole lot more than the students from Last Defense Academy. I think Nozomi is aware of this. Maybe the others are too and just don't care. This being dragged out so much is actually insane. I was thinking "maybe the apparition is Takumi from another reality?!" but I feel like that might also be too easy of an explanation? I need to know more, this game has me by the balls right now.
Day 31 to Day 33
Apparently this is a chunk of days I had in my notes. My theory that they were experimented on was confirmed at least? I'm confused about why I made notes only for this chunk of time instead of just combining it with the next one.
Day 33 to Day 70
Obviously, a lot of information was revealed during this time, like that humanity retreated to underground bunkers to avoid "World Death". World Death being the term used to describe Earth actively trying to eradicate humanity because humans kept destroying the environment. I did have environmental disaster as a thing in the back of my mind this entire time so, that reveal wasn't shocking...just...everything else surrounding it was. I did not expect the TRC to be underground. I figured the invaders did something to Moko, but I was unprepared for the body horror of it all. Genuinely unsettling, 10/10.
Here's my theory updates:
- The invaders are not aliens, they are organisms created by the earth...probably? I'll elaborate later, since I have a new theory that is supported by character speculation in-game.
- Hemoanima might not be from contact with invaders, but it does have something to do with the students having special blood. I think the special blood could just be a fluke of evolution, but I doubt that. I don't really have any theories on this right now.
- I was correct about Kamukura hospital not being a real hospital (it's a research facility), but it isn't the school, I'm going back on that one.
- The buildings they're exploring are not the TRC, they're where humanity used to live.
- I think the machines are what transported them to a different reality. I think, maybe, the scientists were able to pinpoint a timeline where they were most likely to save humanity from destruction and sent them there. Maybe. I'm not 100% sold on this, but it's...an idea. I guess.
- I think commanders used to be humans. They might be corrupted somehow and are being forced to fight.
- I had the theory that Karua/Nozomi's mother researched hemoanima and that was confirmed.
I'm incredibly interested to know more about the invaders. It would be kinda funny if they were just speaking English or something and, because no other languages were spoken at the TRC, it's just being communicated as alien chatter.
