Vernon is a high half elf who was born to a human mother and high elf father in the year 1448 DR in the city of Baldur's Gate. After the death of his parents, he was taken in by priests of Helm and raised within the church. Starting at the age of 12, he trained as a squire, fully joining Helm's paladins in his late teens. Due to the relative peace in Baldur's Gate and its surrounding area, he rarely ventured very far from the city. He just simply wasn't needed. In the year 1492 DR, while doing routine patrols outside of the city walls, Vernon was abducted by an illithid ship and implanted with a mind flayer tadpole.
