Day One - Divination
Full Prompt: Divination. Does it work? Would you use it? What do you think of those who do? Why?
Does it work? I think it depends on what you mean by "work". If you expect it to tell you the future, then no. The future is not set in stone so, that would be impossible. I do, however, think divination can give you insight into situations as they are at the moment you are doing the reading. If I'm doing a tarot reading about an interpersonal conflict and the cards are negative, then I would interpret that as "I need to change my approach" or "Do I think this relationship is worth salvaging? If not, I should probably take the L and move on". If it was positive, then I would know that what I'm doing is the best approach (at least at the moment).
Would I use it? I do! I use oracle cards, tarot and runes, as well as doing dream interpretation if a dream seems particularly important. I don't do the weird Freudian pseudoscience dream interpretation, just to clarify. There's nothing wrong with taking that approach, but I think symbolism is both personal and culturally determined so, using my own research and personal associations makes much more sense. I love divination!
What do I think of those who do? I mean, it depends. Them doing divination doesn't factor in to how I view them, unless they're doing something particularly strange. I would say...vet the people you get readings from. Make sure you know who you're trusting.
I do think which methods you pick should be carefully considered, since some methods of divination are tied to the cultures they originated in. I think tarot is generally fine as the generic method. There's probably some circumstances where tarot isn't suitable, but I think it's generally fine. Runes, however, are very Norse. The meanings of some runes correspond to specific deities or concepts so, I don't think runes would be appropriate to do for a reading specifically about, say, Greek gods. A personal reading would still be fine though. You can do whatever you want, of course, but I personally try to keep context in mind when picking what methods to use.
